米Appleは16日までに、3月25日に予定されていたiPad 2の国内での発売を延期することを決定した。なお、新しい発売日は未定。

　延期の理由について、同社の声明では明確にされていないが、世界的な注目製品であるだけに、国内の物流や発売に伴う店頭での行列などへ配慮したものと思われる。同社が出した声明は以下の通り。

　We are delaying the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan while the country and our teams focus on recovering from the recent disaster. Our hearts go out to the people of Japan, including our employees and their families, who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy.(原文)

　日本と、日本にいる私たちの仲間が災害からの復興を目指す中、日本でのiPad 2の販売を延期することといたしました。大きな悲しみを受けた、社員やその家族を含むすべての日本の皆さんに、心からお悔やみを申し上げます。(アップルによる和文)

　なお、同社ではiTunes Storeを利用した、被災者への寄付を募っている。
